The day’s spotlight was a thrilling contest between Funcaandun, ridden by Robert Halledeen, and the favorite, Legacy Isle. In a breathtaking stretch run, Funcaandun, trained by Jason DaCosta, made a stunning victory at 17-1 odds, edging out Legacy Isle by a long neck in front of a captivated crowd. This Graded Stakes contest for three-year-olds and up showcased the best of Caribbean and international racing talent.

Dave O’Rourke, President and CEO of the New York Racing Association (NYRA), was in attendance and couldn’t help but praise the event’s atmosphere. “It’s really cool. Wonderful. It’s great to see what Caymanas Park is doing with the themes and the energy—it’s something we can bring back to New York,” he said. His excitement about the event underscored the Mouttet Mile’s potential to catapult Jamaican horse racing to the international stage.

O’Rourke also emphasized the importance of the Mouttet Mile for Jamaican racing: “This is big. It’s got a huge purse and it’s fantastic for sporting content. I think this is just the beginning of Jamaica coming onto the international scene in horse racing.”
