Whilst we used to look to celebrities for their idealistic and healthy ways of living, we now look to the common man for the latest and best healthy TikTok food trends to follow. Trends come and go, but when it comes to health the population of users are happy to join the masses in trying out the new foods and methods for healthy eating. A simple diet is not so simple today. Now, we have so many variations of eaters. From strict meat-based diets to plant-based, to not eating at all, people are willing to try just about anything.

Amongst all of the noise, there are TikTok food trends that are approved by health professionals in providing benefits they claim to have. We have done our research, tried and tested trends and taken our diets to extremes to gather the following list of health trends you should consider trying. First things first, there has been a lot of talk about the importance of having 30 proteins within 30 minutes of waking. For those of you who have your morning coffee on the go and do not consider breakfast, you might be damaging your metabolism more than you can imagine. 

Protein is known as a high TEF food which stands for the thermic effect of food. This is essentially the level of energy released during digestion, absorption and the metabolism of nutrients. Essentially, this means that protein is one of the best foods to have in the morning as it is proven to boost your metabolism more than carbs and fats. This can also improve mental alertness and energy for the rest of the day, as the more protein you consume in the morning, the less craving you will have for snacks and sugars.

Turmeric has anti-inflammatory properties, as well as antioxidant properties,  protecting you from various diseases and health complications. This also includes your gut health, which has been an ongoing topic within the health industry. Move over healthy smoothies, powder greens have the limelight. Seemingly a global-scale marketing campaign, powder greens are starting to become a hit amongst health lovers on the go. If you have yet to come across an ad for powder greens, they are essentially a powder form of nutrient-dense plants, all combined into a convent powder. Easily mixed with water to create a green concoction, powder greens are a nutrient-dense drink that allows you to obtain maximum nutrients within one sitting. They are a proven antioxidant, immune-supporting, nutrient-dense product that is worth the hype. Be sure to do your research into the green powder company you are buying from, as some may offer more benefits than others.

Perhaps not a direct TikTok food trend, in fact, the complete opposite. The fasting diet has been circulating the internet for a few years now, particularly intermittent fasting. The general concept behind fasting is to restrain eating for a certain amount of time to allow your body to ‘reset’ and restore the gut microbiome. Intermittent fasting follows a schedule of not eating for a minimum of 16 hours, and then eating nutrient-rich meals within this window. For some, it has proven to support weight loss and improved insulin sensitivity. It also offers the flexibility that many look for when finding a TikTok food trend that fits into their schedule. Fasting of any kind should be done with caution, and you should always consult your doctor to make sure you are doing it with professional advice.

It is essential to avoid processed foods with high sugars where possible if you wish for this diet to have the best results. You can still have the things you love as long as there are organic, low-sugar alternatives. This can be found for low-sugar desserts and even ready to drink cocktails.

Another TikTok food trend that has been prominent on the app is plant-based diets. Both professionals and creators are discussing the benefits and results of this diet. Rather self-explanatory, this diet excludes any animal products including dairy, and takes a holistic approach to eating, similar to the anti-inflammatory diet. This diet involves lots of fruits and veggies, nuts, healthy fats, and of course, avoids any animal-related products. This diet is not appealing to some, but the community of plant-based eaters on TikTok shares some great recipes to take inspiration from. Delicious and healthy at the same time!
