Taylor Swift was the big winner of the night, taking home four awards, including Video of the Year for “I Bet You Think About Me (Taylor’s Version)” and Song of the Year for “All Too Well (10 Minute Version).” She also tied the record for most VMA wins in one night with 10.
Swift’s wins were a testament to her continued dominance in the music industry. She has now won a total of 29 VMAs, more than any other artist. Her wins for “I Bet You Think About Me” and “All Too Well” were also a victory for women in music. Both songs are about heartbreak and betrayal, and they resonated with viewers around the world.
Other big winners at the VMAs included BTS, who won Best Group and Best Pop Video for “Yet to Come (The Most Beautiful Moment).” The South Korean boy band has been a consistent presence at the VMAs, and their wins this year are a testament to their global popularity.
Lil Nas X also had a big night, winning Best Hip Hop Video for “Industry Baby” and Best Collaboration for “Montero (Call Me by Your Name)” with Jack Harlow. Lil Nas X has been a trailblazing figure in hip hop, and his wins are a sign of the progress that the genre is making in terms of LGBTQ+ representation.
The 2023 VMAs also featured a number of memorable moments. Britney Spears made a surprise appearance to perform her new single, “Baby One More Time.” The performance was her first public appearance since her conservatorship was terminated.
Olivia Rodrigo also delivered a powerful performance of her hit song, “Drivers License.” The performance was met with a standing ovation from the audience.
The show also paid tribute to the late Foo Fighters drummer Taylor Hawkins. Hawkins died suddenly in March of 2022, and his death was a shock to the music world. The Foo Fighters were honored with the Video Vanguard Award, which is given to artists who have made significant contributions to the music video medium.
