The vibrant colors, the pulsating rhythms, and the infectious energy of Jamaica Carnival completely dominated Coachella 2023.
For years, Coachella has been the go-to festival for music lovers around the world, with top-tier musicians and artists taking the stage to perform for thousands of fans. However, this year’s event took a surprising turn as based on Social Media,Jamaica Carnival was THE place to be because of its unique blend of music, culture, and of course, all-around pageantry.
How Jamaica Carnival 2023 Dominated Coachella Music Festival
Jamaica Carnival, known for its lively celebrations and colorful costumes, took center stage this weekend where it was trending all over the Internet from “The Mirror” to “Page 6”. Though Jamaicans such as Shenseea, took the stage to perform at Coachella, Jamaica Carnival definitely took centre stage!
This year’s Carnival attracted over 20 celebrities in partnership with Ebony Magazine including Omarion, O’Ryan, Jerrie Johnson, Winnie Harlow, Jessie Woo, Shoniqua Shandai, and Chance the Rapper (just to name a few).
The highlight of any Jamaica Carnival is the Parade, also known as “Carnival Road March” or “Jump Up Day” to locals where popular streets are blocked off in Kingston to facilitate the Revellers from each band marching.
It is here we get to see “Carnival Goers” in all their glory in elaborate costumes adorned with feathers, jewels, and sequins. Included in the festivities are “Big Trucks” blaring music and some carrying alcohol, as they make their way through the crowd to be the source of entertainment. Included in the day are live performances where artists such as Aidonia, Ding Dong, Bunji Garlin, and more bring the energy for the day. Towards the North of Jamaica in the state of Colorado at Coachella, there were the sounds of Black Pink and a memorable performance from Blink 182 that received a somewhat lukewarm response as Bassist Mark Hoppus made his comeback to the stage after being diagnosed with B-cell lymphoma stage 4-A. This however still did not compare to Jamaica Carnival as the event was back in all its glory, due to a hiatus because of the Pandemic.
The success of Jamaica Carnival 2023 has opened up new doors for the Caribbean island, showcasing its culture and music to a wider audience. The festival has also provided a platform for Jamaican artists to showcase their talent and reach new fans, potentially launching them onto the global stage.
While Coachella is a major worldwide event that attracts big-name celebrities like Beyonce and Bad Bunny, the place to be on Sunday, April 16, 2023, was in Jamaica for Carnival.
If you don’t believe us, check your timeline and you will see all the festivities and might even catch a dose of FOMO while you browse. Jamaica Carnival is a celebration of diversity, culture, and music, bringing together people from different backgrounds and creating an unforgettable experience.
