All roads lead to Devon House on April 2, 2022, and this is exactly where I made my 10-minute trek to the Historical Landmark.
You can tell whether or not an event will be good by the number of cars in the parking lot and how long it took to get you inside the venue! The event was about to be Goodt! And I was more than excited to be “legally” and responsibly outside after a two (2) years hiatus.
My Jamaica Blue Mountain Coffee Festival 2022 Experience
After navigating my way to the “other side” of the parking lot located towards the exit gate, I made my way down the narrow brick path that led to the lawns. I saw the familiar Media Tent and got my Media Band and was now inside the venue! The first thing that greeted me was the smiling faces of the ladies of the Elle Creative Ja team who gave an overview of the happenings of the day.
I looked around for a bit and decided to start in the middle of the area where I saw Warren Barrett, Principal of Lemongrass Tea Room located at Devon House. Along with his signature Teas, there were baked goods and a Granola Supreme which featured a number of grains. Just a few steps over, I was introduced to Paige Garnett of Zanèsia and her line of unique scented candles where the stand-out was “HighLight”, which is a Marijuana scented candle! According to Garnett :
“It leaves you relaxed as you inhale the healing properties of marijuana, not to mention the calming and soothing properties of eucalyptus and lemongrass. This candle also acts as a natural insect repellent”.
I took a few more steps and I was greeted by the smiling faces of the ladies of Adam & Eve Day Spa who introduced me to their latest product, a Coffee Beauty Oil! I, of course, had to sample the product and I must let you know, that it is moisturizing and the scent of coffee is not overpowering. Being the nosey person I am, I had to ask “How they made it” and was told it was a secret!
I then continued booth hopping until I came upon the Tortuga booth where they were offering a few treats! I tried the Tiramisu which had an amazing flavor where coffee and rum were in perfect harmony which was exactly what I needed to get me through the day. After getting “Tiramisu wasted”, I was stopped in my trek by a new brand Paris Ruby Cakes which is a Montego-Bay-based Baked-goods and Novelties that offers delights such as Bread Pudding Loaves, Cheese Cakes, and Banana Bread Loaves. The top seller of the day was their Bread-Pudding Loaf as patrons came in drones making purchases and it’s safe to say, it was selling like “hot pudding”.
After meeting a few new friends, I made my way over to my favorite part of the venue … the Fashion and Jewelry area! I must admit I wasn’t pleased with where these brands were set up as I think they could have been placed where the food stations are closer to the “Mansion” which would give them more visibility. I was on the lookout for AdorNable Accessories which is an amazing supporter of the brand on Instagram and got to catch up. She is a breath of fresh air and is always full of vibes and energy and of course, gives “Chic Rich Auntie Vibes”. After a hearty conversation, I noticed Purple Jade and Chrissy’s Coils which are two Handmade Jewelry Brands. It has been a while since I’ve seen the owner of Purple Jade, Kemoy Morgan and I was eager to see what she had in store, which is always fabulous, one-of-a-kind statement pieces. The stars of the show were her beautiful statement rings that featured a mix of gold and stones that are great to top off any outfit!
Chrissy’s Coils was the next visit and the owner Christen Ramos is always a bubbly, effervescent sensation to chat with and she shared her new payment option, through Lynk. As the name suggests; Her pieces are made from aluminum, copper, sterling silver, and gold-filled wire that are shaped by manipulating each piece by using a “coiling” motion.
Next, I stopped in for a quick “hello” at the T & T Fashions booth to check out her beautifully, color-printed Afrocentric designs!
Whenever I attend events, I always make it a mission to also meet brands outside of Fashion, Jewelry, and Beauty. This was the case with Kabreco Designs, which is a Home and Office Decor brand that specializes in high-quality wood pieces which are expertly curated in their design studio. I was intrigued by their succulents placed in chic, wooden, mini-planter boxes that would add a modern touch to any office or home space. The stand-out piece of the day was a dual-function coffee scooper that also has an insertion towards the ladle that can be used to keep the coffee bag closed which means the Coffee will always be fresh!
After meeting all the brands and catching up with familiar faces, I made my way to the main stage just in time to watch Christoper Martin performing! Christopher was definitely “giving it” and had the crowd engaged with his performance when he pulled on hits like “Cheater’s Prayer”, “I’m a Big Deal”, and “Big Big” to name a few. The 2005 Digicel Rising Stars Winner was outfitted in an Animal Printed All Saints Shirt, Louis Vuitton Millionaire Sunglasses, Christian Dior Belt, Black Pants, and Louis Vuitton Shoes.
The Jamaica Blue Mountain Coffee Festival was an amazing experience that exposes patrons to the versatility of Coffee while supporting local Artisans and Brands.
This was my first time at the event and I was not disappointed and will be back for years to come! I liked that there was overflow parking at Terra Nova with a Shuttle service which made the traffic flow less hectic.
Let me know in the comments if you’ve ever been to the Blue Mountain Coffee Festival and what was the most unique coffee-infused item you ever tried.
