The Grammy Awards were indefinitely postponed because of concerns about surging COVID-19 cases and omicron variant risks, Reuters reports.
The music awards show had been set for Jan. 31, but the Recording Academy and CBS said in a joint statement that revised plans “will be announced soon.” This is the second consecutive year the pandemic has disrupted the awards show; a COVID-19 case spike pushed back last year’s telecast by six weeks.
The Grammy’s 2022 Postponed Indefinitely
Citing COVID-19 concerns, organizers of the Sundance Film Festival have moved the event online for the second year in a row. The event had been scheduled as a hybrid of virtual and in-person screening events for later this month in Park City, Utah.
The following is a Joint Statement from the Recording Academy and CBS:
“After careful consideration and analysis with city and state officials, health and safety experts, the artist community and our many partners, the Recording Academy and CBS have postponed the 64th Annual GRAMMY Awards Show. The health and safety of those in our music community, the live audience, and the hundreds of people who work tirelessly to produce our show remains our top priority. Given the uncertainty surrounding the Omicron variant, holding the show on January 31st simply contains too many risks. We look forward to celebrating Music’s Biggest Night on a future date, which will be announced soon.”
