How I Decorate My Glam Christmas Tree | Autumn Glam

Christmas is a big deal to me and I’ve been obsessed with the season ever since I was a child! There is a running joke in my family where they all agree that If I don’t put up a Christmas Tree in December, they will send help … literally!

Sure this might sound a bit much, but let’s just agree I’m that girl who always goes over the top at Christmas time and I make no apologies about that. I love that feeling of joy that comes along with the season and that I get to spend time with my entire family. There are certain traditions that we’ve held on to as a family which includes us all going to Nashville for Christmas (all 10 of us) which includes: my parents, siblings, cousins, their kids and my aunt. Another tradition is decorating my tree each year with a surprise theme that is only revealed after the tree is decorated. Today, I will be sharing a few tips on how you can decorate your very own Glam Tree and be the envy of all your neighbours and the go-to person for all things Christmas in your family.

Have a theme

I know this might seem like a bit of an overkill, but think of having a theme like having a party. The theme is the thing that guides you and tells you what colours and decorations to get so that things look a certain way and it’s cohesive. What I like to do is search Google for “Christmas Tree Themes” for a specific year and a few colours and trends will come up. If the theme involves a colour I’ve used in previous way, I might go off something I’ve never used like “Orange and Green” which is what I decided to work with this year.

Think Outside the Box

Like Fashion, there are no rules! I live In Jamaica where things are more traditional and Christmas is not as commercialised as it is in the States or other First World countries. This has seen people sticking to more traditional colours like red, greens and browns (Pinecones). These are in no way in alignment with my personality as I love all things glam. Look for things like flowers, ribbons and bows that have interesting colours, textures and shapes that will allow your decor to stand out. Add some glitter and you will definitely stand out.

Have a Christmas Budget

Did you know of all the Holidays Christmas is the one where people overspend the most? To avoid this, I set aside a specific amount of money about three (3) months before December specifically for Christmas Decorations. I love to purchase my decorations from Fontana Pharmacy in Kingston that offers really nice decorations that are somewhat one of a kind, but they are pricey. To avoid going in savings and other funds I don’t want to spend and to avoid being broke, I have that budget that is just for decorations. I know not everyone might have the privilege to do this, but if you can, it’s always great to budget as much as you can to not put a strain on your income for other things that might be more important.

Take Your Time

Setting up a “Glam Tree” should not be rushed and take a lot of planning and time. Since last year I’ve done my tree in stages over the course of a week just to give myself time as I have a 9-5 which takes a lot out of me. The first stage involves taking the tree from storage, unboxing the tree, organising the branches, installing the tree, flocking the tree and actually decorating the tree. If you want your tree to look good, pace yourself so it looks “Glam” and not a hot mess. If you have children or younger family members who want to help, give them a tree of their own so they can put their spin on that tree. The Glam tree is for you and should reflect your personality.

Shop Early

I don’t know about anybody else, but I love a good deal that involves saving money. Things get more expensive as it gets closer to Christmas as the demand is higher. It’s all about supply and demand — add in a pandemic where everything has been delayed and you will get crazy prices. I like to plan my list as early as September then shop in October towards early November. If you plan to shop online, the great thing is that the products will be readily available, but you want to ensure you get it in time for the holidays. Take my advice and shop early to save money and ensure you get all the items you need.
