If the Met Gala is fashion’s carnival, then the Council of Fashion Designers of America’s (or CFDA for short) annual awards are fashion’s Oscars. Since its first iteration in 1981, the CFDA Fashion Awards have celebrated the best in American design, in the fields of both established and emerging talent. This year, the list of nominated creatives include those whose names you’ve no doubt caught in conversation—Emily Adams Bode, Telfar Clemens, Catherine Holstein for Khaite and Christopher John Rogers to name a few. “The 2021 CFDAFashion Awards mark a much-anticipated in-person return,” CFDA CEO Steven Kolb says. “American fashion is experiencing a renewed energy, and these designers play a significant role in the future trajectory of our industry.”

What better way to celebrate fashion’s exciting talent than by rolling out a red carpet—that in this case, functions dually as an exhibition? In 2021, the event will be hosted by actress Emily Blunt, who appeared before the cameras in an orange, single-breasted suit by award nominee Christopher John Rogers. Joining her in full colour was Drew Barrymore in voluminous yellow Christian Siriano tulle, and the inimitable Zendaya, this year’s winner of the CFDA Fashion Icon Award—the youngest ever recipient in the event’s history. Trust the actress to blow the rest of the carpet away in a crimson two-piece by Vera Wang, with an exaggerated peplum waist.
