The world is slowly starting to open up and go back to physical shows with the return of New York Fashion Week (NYFW), the MTV Video Music Awards and now the Met Gala! The Met Gala approached faster than we imagined and is slated for today, Monday September 13, 2021. What is the Met Gala
If you are not a Fashion Enthusiast you are probably wondering what the hooplas is about the Met Gala as to you it might just seem like Celebrities showing up in interesting clothing based on a theme. It’s much more than that —
It’s an evening when designers, models, and Hollywood stars convene in the year’s most over-the-top looks to celebrate and fundraiseat a new exhibit from the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute. Typically, everyone dresses to the theme, and according to the feel, of the exhibit; past themes have included camp, religion, punk, and more.
The proceeds (the expensive price paid by the celebs) goes into the Museum for it’s upkeep throughout the year and to maintain the designs, pay the staff and keep the building going.
Met Gala 2021 Theme
This Year’s theme is “A Celebration of Fashion” which the dress code on the invitation being “American Independence”, this could mean celebs showing up in star spangled banner inspired digs and anything in the red, white and blue hue that fits the theme. In this same breath, the exhibit itself will be in two parts one starting with :
“In America: A Lexicon of Fashion” and “In America: An Anthology of Fashion.”
Part one of the exhibition, “A Lexicon of Fashion,” will open on September 18 at the Anna Wintour Costume Center at the Met, marking the Costume Institute’s 75th anniversary.
“a new vocabulary that’s more relevant and more reflective of the times in which we’re living.” Pieces from Christopher John Rogers, Sterling Ruby, Conner Ives, Prabal Gurung, and Andre Walker will be featured in part one of the exhibition”.
Part two, “An Anthology of Fashion,” will open on May 5, 2022, in the period rooms of the museum’s American Wing.
There are 2 Hosts
Yes, you heard that right, there will be two hosts one of which is Actress + Media Personality KeKe Palmer who will work alongside Actor, Writer and Director llama Glazer who will be interviewing the invited guests as the arrive on the Red Carpet. There will be a Red Carpet and the event organisers ensured all COVID protocols will be observed and there will be enough Social Distance .. Fashionably of course. We here at Haute People are looking forward to the Red Carpet as this is where we see Fashion in Motion … literally. Will Rihanna make a return to the event? We do hope so because sis always slays unapologetically.

Multiple Co-Chairs
This year’s notable cochairs, meanwhile, include the Gen Z superstars Timothée Chalamet, Billie Eilish, Naomi Osaka, and Amanda Gorman—so expect to see them make a cameo on the carpet and livestream, too.
