Retinol is one of the most sought after “Beauty” related product that always seem to create a divide among the beauty community. There are some people who swear by the product, while others are somewhat “afraid” of it due to his potency and the care you should take once you start using this product.
Here at Haute People, we make it our goal to try our best to inform and educate our readers on products and terms we come across to help you make better purchasing decisions, so we wanted to “spill the tea” on Retinol. If you have never heard of this product or maybe you have, but don’t have a lot of information, we will be holding your hands today and tell you Everything You Need To Know About Retinol.
What is Retinol
Retinol is one of the main forms of Vitamin A, that is used to help stimulate cell turnover and help stimulate collagen Production. In essence, it is one of the main forms of Retinoids.
“Retinoids is the general term that includes all the vitamin A derivatives both natural and synthetic,”
Technical terms aside, think of Retinol as a super charged Vitamin A, that helps to reduce and even eliminate wrinkles, fine lines, frown + smile lines at a much faster rate than other beauty products that claim to do the same.
I dub myself as a Retinol virgin but was always curious to know what it was and how it worked after only hearing it described as “intense”. I recently received a full size bottle of the Kiehl’s NEW Retinol Micro-Dose Anti-Aging Retinol Serum to try just to see how I would like it.
Everything You Need to Know About Retinol
First off, I must comment on the packaging! If you are a seasoned reader of the Blog, you would have known that I am a sucker for packaging. I prefer simplicity over anything else as it looks more expensive and can easily compliment my aesthetic. The product features a violet ( purple) cylindrical bottle with a white pump and white label with the signature Kiehl’s “K” in sliver.
If you are sensitive to smell, you will be a bit taken aback at first because it has a chemical smell, similar to “hair cream” and has a yellow colour that offers a firm texture that is not too watery. The smell goes away upon application so there is no need to worry about that, and a little goes a long way. It is recommenced to use 1 pump which is similar to 1 drop and you apply morning and night (after cleansing) to parts of the face + neck then follow with your favourite moisturiser.
I struggle with under eye bags and a slight shadow from wearing glasses and since I started using the product two weeks ago, I can already see subtle results. My eyes look less “baggy” and the shadow left from my glasses, is slowly starting to disappear. It is strongly advised to wear sunscreen and limit time in the sun since the product is so strong it makes the outer layer of the skin thin, so you can imagine what being in the sun for an experienced period of time can do to your skin.
I am exciting to see what my skin will look like once I’ve completely used up the product. Would I recommend to a friend? Yes! However, I would recommend it to a person in my age group since it helps with pre-mature aging.
Let me know if you’ve used Retinol and how you liked it? Also, have you heard of Kiehl’s?
