After more than a year and a half of no IRL gatherings, Wednesday’s CFDA and Vogue cocktail to celebrate the 2021 CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund finalists was significant in more ways than one. That’s because it was the first time since we announced the 2021 crop in April that the talents met each other in person, at Spring Place in partnership with IMG and NYFW: The Shows presented by Afterpay.
“It’s crazy just to be all together, in one place,” finalist Batsheva Hay said, scanning the chic environs. “We only recognize each other from Zoom. Everyone looks amazing and beautiful.”

And it wasn’t just her fellow finalists; Spring Place was abuzz with models and celebrities – Aly & AJ, Chanel Iman, Dilone, Evan Mock, Amanda Murphy, Cailin Russo, Indya Moore – and, of course, members of the Fashion Fund Selection Committee, including Anna Wintour, Steven Kolb as well as Paloma Elsesser, Roopal Patel, Sam Lobban, Eva Chen, Chioma Nnadi, and Mark Holgate.
Past Fashion Fund designers such as Georgina Chapman, Adam Selman, Paul Andrew, Gigi Burris, Christian Cowan, and Jonathan Cohen turned out to tip their hats off to this year’s crop. They included Hay, Mike Eckhaus and Zoe Latta of Eckhaus Latta; Rebecca Henry and Akua Shabaka of House of Aama; Kenneth Nicholson; Jameel Mohammed of Khiry; LaQuan Smith; Abrima Erwiah of Studio One Eighty Nine; Edvin Thompson of Theophilio, and Willy Chavarria (Anifa Mvuemba of Hanifa, based in Washington, D.C., could not attend).
“I am just overjoyed to see my friends, some who were in the Fashion Fund with me and some who are in the fashion fund now,” said Victor Glemaud, a 2017 Fashion Fund alum. “I am happy to see the people I love and respect, and I am happy to see people being dressed up again.”
