If ever there was a household name for locally made Flavourings and Savories in Jamaica,it would be Benjamins Jamaica.
The company has been in existence for over 150 years and was first known as “Benjamin’s Jamaica Healing Oil Factory” and was founded by Percival Austin Benjamin in 1879. It was soon acquired by Cecil B. Facey and experienced a metamorphosis which included a name change to what we know today as “Benjamins”.
Benjamins Jamaica is Making Baking Fun Again
For over a century, the company has been producing and distributing many flavours in its signature “mini-glass bottles” that is used in many households across Jamaica. Wherever there is baking whether personal or commercial, Benjamins products can always be found in the mix, literally! One could say this is not only a traditional brand but a life-long name which has allowed the company to expand its offerings to now include occupying a section of John’s Lane behind their East Street location property located Downtown Kingston.
The expansion included a new line of Vanilla Products namely: Vanilla Berry, Vanilla Alcohol Free and Vanilla Spiced. If you may not be familiar with baking or creating anything like Porridge (which is a popular breakfast food in Jamaica), Vanilla is considered a base ingredient in these types of foods. This new line of flavours can be used in favorites like ice cream, candies, cakes, and cookies as vanilla also enhances the perception of sweetness which makes it somewhat of a healthier choice.
If we have piqued your interest, you should definitely try the products to see how they can make your dishes “full a flava”, that will have you being invited to all the cookouts in a COVID friendly way of course.
What’s next for the company? To increase production numbers and expand in other markets like Latin America and Ghana through exports of its vanilla, rubbing alcohol, olive oil and cough medicine.
Be sure to pick up your Benjamins products in retail outlets like supermarkets and wherever food items are sold across the Island and Online in time for the Holiday Season.
