Time certainly flies when you are having fun as I have no idea how we got to 10 years of Blogging but we are here for a Good Time and a Long time.
People have asked what it’s like to do something consistently for 10 years and all I can say is, it feels like second nature. I am a firm believer of using what you have to get what you want and in this case what is “have” is a passion for Fashion and Writing and I’ve been able to use that to create a life that is purpose driven that I love and try my best to share with others. Along this amazing journey, I learned a few things that I would like to share. If you would like to know what I’ve learned being a Blogger for 10 years, keep reading!
10 Things I’ve Learned in 10 Years of Blogging
- Consistency is Key: It’s true what they say, consistency is the key to anything in life and once you’ve made up your mind that this is what you really want, keep at it to see things grow.
- Growth does not Happen overnight: In this world of McDonaldization (look that up) where things are expected to be instantaneous, you will not grow overnight. Sure you might have a post that goes viral but what happens after the next 24 hours is the true testament of this.
- Blogging is a Lucrative Business: Yes! You can make money, lots of money Blogging! The possibilities are endless!
- Support will come from who you Least Expect: Not everyone who rocks with you is truly your friend. You will learn this when you step outside of your comfort zone to do something like Blogging. My biggest support comes from people I’ve met online who found what I do valuable or people from High School and University who I wasn’t friends with.
- Be Intentional in Everything You Do: If you decide to do anything at all, be intentional about what you want to accomplish and hit the ground running with a plan of action and be sure to execute. Being intentional means you set goals and timelines and accomplish them with no excuses no matter how challenging things get or how many obstacles are in your way.
- It’s OK to start over: This site was on Blogger for 8 years until I changed to WordPress which saw me losing years of amazing content and starting over. I saw the potential of the brand and Blogger could not sustain the growth I envisioned since it has no new features since I joined in 2011.
- Starting is hard: When I first started the blog, it was hard as there were hardly any books or anyone to guide me as it was relatively new and I failed a-lot and failed often until I finally got it right.
- Failure is inevitable: This is on the heels of the point above, when starting anything new, failure is enviable. The most important aspect of this is to take each failure as a lesson. It’s best to fail hard and fast, get all that mess out the way and pick yourself up and keep moving.
- You are your biggest Obstacle: Let’s be honest, no matter how many bad things people might say about you, deciding on how to move forward is all on your unless that person or people are physically standing in your way in a literally sense. We often get into our own heads and place limits on ourselves then when things are not going according to plan we become surprised even though we knew it would happen.
- It will bear fruit: I know this expression might be played out, but I love to use this it anyway. If you put in hardwork (seeds) for years, it will start to bear fruits (rewards and opportunities) for years to come. This fruit can look like an increase in page views, opportunities, brand trips, sponsored blog posts and so on. Be sure not to sow seeds of discord and undermine others to get where you need to go. Like boomerang, it will all come back to bite you.
It has been an amazing 10 years and I thank you all for the tremendous support and look forward to another 10 years and beyond to continue creating content that adds value.
