Inauguration Day is here!
Whether you are in politics or not, things like these are always important to be aware of just to be in the know.
Today, history will be made as President-elect Joseph R. Biden and Vice-President-elect Kamala Harris-Emhoff were sworn in to take their posts respectively.
The event is taking place in Washington at the Capitol with 1,000 invites guests (due to COVID-19). In attendance, we’ve seen celebrities like Rosario Dawson and her husband, Jennifer Lopez, and Alex Rodriguez, and Lady Gaga!
We here at Haute People love major events like these and though this is a historical moment, we are here for the Fashion!

If you tuned in to the event, you would have probably noticed all the “major” women wearing purple! Here’s Why –Kamala Harris, former First Lady Michelle Obama, and former First Lady and Secretary of State Hillary Clinton are all wearing the historically important hue. Even Senator Elizabeth Warren chose a purple scarf!
So why is purple so significant? For one, it represents bipartisanship: the literal mix of red, for the Republican party, and blue, for the Democratic party. This could be interpreted as a symbol of Harris’s point of view as she starts this next chapter, and perhaps her desire to unite both sides of the aisle.
Second, it’s a color of the suffragette movement. “Purple is the color of loyalty, constancy to purpose, unswerving steadfastness to a cause. White, the emblem of purity, symbolizes the quality of our purpose; and gold, the color of light and life, is as the torch that guides our purpose, pure and unswerving,” according to a line in a newsletter from National Woman’s Party in the United States.
