Finding your signature style is one of those things we often put aside as we just purchase items that “look good” without putting a lot of thought into things. I must admit, it can be quite daunting as Fashion is dynamic and there are so many clothes that it can be overwhelming.
Having a signature style will help to set you apart from others and make you feel more confident. Today, I will be sharing a few tips to help you not only find your signature style but “own it”. But first, what is a “Signature Style” and “How do I get one”?
What is a Signature Style?
Your signature look (or uniform) is the flagship look of your own personal style. … Your signature look is the outfit people picture you wearing when they think of you.
How to Find Your Signature Style in 3 Steps
Tip # 1
Find Your Style Inspirations
Who are the people you would say already have the style you would like? Are they consistent with this look? It’s important to have style inspirations so you can build a foundation for how you would want your style to be. These people can be musicians, business professionals, models, you name it. Once you’ve found your inspirations, try to put a label on their style. My style inspirations are Lauren Conrad, Olivia Palermo, and Olivia Culpo — they have a classic, timeless, chic, and effortless look that I would like to emulate and they always look put together even if they are in sweats.
Tip #2
Dress for your Body Type
I know the issues of “body type” can be a tricky one as there are “body shamers” and people are often encouraged to wear what they feel like wearing. There are times however when we have to look in the mirror and face the truth and be honest with what works well with our specific body type. I for one is extremely petite so while I love long, floor-length pieces, these do nothing for me but swallow me up and let me look like a shapeless box! Since I’ve realized this, I’ve been shopping at stores like Asos that carry pieces for petite bodies and I look better in pieces that are fitted. Know your body type and dress for it.
Tip #3
Dress for the Life You Want
How many of you have heard “Dress for the Job You Want”? This certainly has some truth to it and has a lot to do with Psychology! Yes, there is Psychology even in Fashion. My ultimate goal in life is to live off this blog 100% and be one of those smartly dressed professional women who wear structured pieces and always looking good with minimal effort. If I’m to achieve this, surely I cannot be wearing see-through, skin-tight cut out pieces and expect to be taken seriously. Start where you are and build from there until you get the life you want.
I hope these tips will help you to create and own your signature style! If there are any questions or suggestions, please send us an email at hautepeople@yahoo.com.
