Contrary to popular belief, Blogging is not dead! Now more than ever people need to be online and top of mind for individuals and brands. If there was ever a time to start Blogging it’s now. I have been blogging for almost 8 years (in September) and I’ve learned so many tips and tricks about Blogging that I will be launching something really amazing at the end of this month to help those who want to learn all about this exciting Industry.
If you’ve always wanted to start a blog but don’t know-how, you’ve landed on the perfect page. Today, I will be telling you how to quickly and easily Start a Blog in 2020: The Beginner’s Guide.
How To Start a Blog in 2020: The Beginner’s Guide
Start by Choosing a Niche: A niche is a specific area that is restricted to one topic. According to Google:
“Niche blogging is the act of creating a blog with the intent of using it to market to a particular niche market.
My greatest tip in selecting a Niche is to write what you know and focus on an area you are passionate about. The old Haute People was a Lifestyle Blog that featured several interests from different categories. This Blog however is Lifestyle Blog that is niche focused on Fashion Editorial. We write about and cover the most exclusive high-fashion events that are trending all over the world.
Choosing this niche took quite some time for me as I do have many interests, but I found that over the years, I’ve always had a love for High-Fashion + Editorial and realized this market was under-served in Jamaica so here we are. While you are in your planning stage of starting a blog, ask yourself “What am I good at” and “What do I truly Love” and focus on this as your niche.
Choose a Blogging Platform: Think of a Blogging Platform as the place where you Blog will live. Just like the real world, there are so many options to choose from and you want to choose one that will suit your needs and what you hope to accomplish with the Blog. Will it be a Hobby Blog or a Business Blog? Another thing to factor in at this stage is the price.
Based on the Blogging Platform you choose it can be inexpensive or super expensive. You can choose from Platforms like Squarespace, Wix, Blogger, WordPress and so much more! Whatever you choose ensure it’s something you think will work for you versus what other people are using that might work for them but not for you. Pick a Domain: Your Domain is the name of your blog on the web — for example, this blog’s domain is thehautepeople.com even though the name of the Blog is Haute People. This is because .com is such a popular domain name that “Haute People. com was not available. I would highly recommend and suggest that as soon as you have come up with a name for your Blog, you start your search on the web and purchase that name. This name can cost anywhere from $10 – $15 per year and will be yours for as long as you continue to make payments. You can choose to host your blog on sites like Godaddy, BlueHost, DreamHost and more!
Since this is the name you will be known as online, I would suggest you choose wisely and choose something that is linked to the Blog’s Niche — the name could be abstract, based on your own name or whatever makes sense to what you will be writing about.
Start Writing: Now that you have everything in place, its time to launch — I highly recommend having at least 10 articles ready to go before the initial launch. It’s always great to have content ready to go and will last you for at least 6 weeks so you will have time to test the market and see how things will go.
