9 Reasons Why Take Style Out has Faltered

Pinterest LinkedIn Tumblr

As Geoffrey Chaucer said “All good things must come to an end”  and sadly, the topic for discussion is “Take Style Out”. If you are a Fashion Enthusiast you would have heard of “Fashion’s Night Out” which is the one-day Shopping Event all over the world started by Anna Wintour of Vogue. Here in Jamaica, we are great at copying  creating our version of International events and trends. Below are a few reasons why we here at Haute People feel Take Style Out have faltered!

1. It has run its course! There is a season and a time for everything! When it first came out it was the talk of the town and on everyone’s lips as the thing to do. This year, however, not so much.

medianet_width = “728”;
medianet_height = “90”;
medianet_crid = “185308422”;
medianet_versionId = “111299”;
(function() {
var isSSL = ‘https:’ == document.location.protocol;
var mnSrc = (isSSL ? ‘https:’ : ‘http:’) + ‘//contextual.media.net/nmedianet.js?cid=8CU3G4D0M’ + (isSSL ? ‘&https=1’ : ”);
document.write(”);
})();

2. Online Shopping has taken over! This is major across the world where mega stores are closing down due to the spike in Online Shopping. With Courier services like Mailpac and Ship me .. we can literally have anything we want so why would we go to the stores?

3. The Store Inventory is weak! Lawd, lawd, lawd! Most of the stores who participate always put their out of season stock on sale or as I like to call it “ole bruk” and keep the quality items regular price– this makes no sense as the whole point is to get a good deal on everything!

4. Stores are over it! This year, there were fewer stores involved! If there are fewer people participating why bother taking part? Enough said

medianet_width = “728”;
medianet_height = “90”;
medianet_crid = “185308422”;
medianet_versionId = “111299”;
(function() {
var isSSL = ‘https:’ == document.location.protocol;
var mnSrc = (isSSL ? ‘https:’ : ‘http:’) + ‘//contextual.media.net/nmedianet.js?cid=8CU3G4D0M’ + (isSSL ? ‘&https=1’ : ”);
document.write(”);
})();

5. Bad Timing! When this event first came out it was in September AFTER back to school when everyone was pretty much broke! Now it’s in October when most people are saving for vacations which includes travel. Why would you purchase “out of season items” when you can wait until Black Friday or Cyber Monday or even after Christmas Sales Abroad?

6.  Clothing is Cheap! Again– sites like Shein and other Asian Online stores offer Clothing and Accessories at a cheaper rate so why would you purchase one item for $5,000jmd when you can get 10 items for usd$50 on those same sites?

7. Stores Ran out of Gimmicks to bring people in! I remember the first year there were Fashion Shows in the Plaza and at Devon House and several places across Kingston, Food, Drinks and surprise giveaways from NCB and you were just reeled in.

8. People Don’t Actually Shop! Believe me, when I tell you, there are more window shoppers than buyers! People love the excitement but they rarely ever buy anything!

9. There were not enough promotions! I feel like the team of the event stuck to “traditional media” to promote the event which is not a wise move in this culture of Instagram and Youtube! If they opted for Instream Ads on YouTube and Ads on Instagram they would have appealed to a wider audience.

This is not a jab at the event or the conceptualizers we just felt as Bloggers and the organic voice of the people, we felt it necessary to share our opinions.

Let us know what you think about this year’s Take Style Out — should it end or continue?

We have a small favor to ask. People are reading the Haute Lifestyle than ever since our recent placement in the South Florida Blogger Awards but advertising revenues across the media are falling fast. We do not have investors and everything Blog related is funded out of pocket– we want to keep our journalism as fun and open as we can. So you can see why we need to ask for your help. Our article takes a lot of time, money and hard work to produce. But we do it because we believe our perspective and voices matter – because it might well be your perspective, too.

If everyone who reads our posts, who likes it, helps fund it, our future would be much more secure.
