Jamaica is not short
of talent! The little Island in the English –speaking Caribbean once known for
Reggae Music and Usain Bolt have now added Fashion to its repertoire. It was a
hot Sunday afternoon when inside the Sir William Grant Park in Downtown Kingston
I saw the most beautiful wire jewelry that caught my eyes that I immediately
decided I had to meet the designer.

Lisa Beau is a
professional “Buntricia” trained make-up artiste who starting creating jewelry
as a form of therapy which eventually led to a full line of items. This inspiration she explains came from the encouragement of friends and family who
saw her designs and with their stamp of approval “Beaucentric Designs” was
born.
The line features
necklaces, bracelets, and earrings made of copper which is a reddish color which
makes it easy to wear with a number of different outfits.

The designs can be
described as eclectic and unique as the juxtaposition of copper and bold
colored pieces make them stand out!

Once you see a piece of jewelry from
“Beaucentric Designs” you will immediately fall in love. It is one of those
collections where it’s hard to just choose one item.

})();

Did you
always want Design Jewelry?

No, I
didn’t even know I could design jewelry. It was just a discovered Talent

What
inspired you to launch your own brand and how did you come up with the name?

When I started it was
more for Therapy and something to keep my mind together. When friends and the family would see the designs I created, they encouraged me to do more and that is
where the inspiration came from. I prayed and asked God to give me a name since
he gave me the gift and BEAUCENTRIC (Where Beauty Is Eclectic) was born.

Explain
your creative process

My creative process is
diverse, there is no set process that I follow. I just allow my creativity to flow and I follow
it’s natural beat.

What is
one important life lesson you’ve learned thus far since being in business?

To
never ever compare yourself or gift to anyone else and to trust your growth. Who
you are is not measured by what anyone else has.

Finish
the sentence … on the weekend you can find me …

You’ll
find me creating and relaxing spending time with my Son.

Tell us
about the scope of your work?

Well
I have my Jewellery line and purses and I’m also a professional make-up artist. I
also paint and to be honest, I have other projects that I’m working on but not ready to
show just yet but there is much more to come from Beaucentric.

Was it
hard starting a creative business?

Starting any business
is hard and yes a creative one is extremely hard! I had to learn every step on
my own when you have to also do the business aspect as well as the creative (design) side of things, it’s a bit of a challenge.

I’m thankful for the support system as they keep me going. There are many times I wanted to walk away or felt like I couldn’t go any further but Jermet and Davine
wouldn’t let me.

What
can we expect from Beaucentric for Summer 2019 and beyond?

Eclectic pieces (LOL)
yeah, I have some ideas that I’m working on trying. I’m doing something that I’ve never done
before but that’s who Beaucentric is so looking for amazing out of the box
collection.

Do you
think Jamaica is more accepting of creative careers like Fashion + Design?

Yes, I do — this
generation is more open-minded and out of the box when it comes to fashion and
beauty. When I’m at craft shows most of my customers are locals and they love
it.
