New York Fashion Week | Fall/Winter 2019 Day 1 | # Nolcha Shows

Pinterest LinkedIn Tumblr

Hi Guys!

It’s been a while and that’s because I was busy getting ready for New York Fashion Week. I’m gonna be really honest and tell you that this trip almost did not happen! Ever since the US Dollar has been blowing up in Jamaica things are much more expensive and you have to make a strict budget and only consider things that are a necessity. I am finally here and I went to my first show thanks to Fashion Mingle for which I am the Caribbean Ambassador! There will be a separate Blog post on that coming soon! Now that you are all caught up, read below on how my first day went.

My #NYFW started with me attending the Nolcha Shows located at the Union West Event Space. Nolcha is an award-winning events brand that works with Independent Fashion Brands to put stellar events together for New York Fashion Week. I attended 3 shows at this venue: 12:30pm, 3:00 pm and 6:00 pm.

The Design Labels were Unwonted, Acid NYC, Bennov, Supin Life and Videmus Omnia.
Unwonted

})();

At the first event, Designer Lu Jin Zhang presented her Fall / Winter 2019 Collection for her Unwonted Label.  The theme of this year’s collection is BALANCE which is inspired by the intimate relationship between materials and cut. What made the collection interesting is that fact that garments were deconstructed and sewn together to create pieces that look similar (but different) and can be worn with other pieces to create multiple outfits.

ACID NYC

Acid NYC is fast becoming one of New York’s fastest growing Independent Fashion Labels.  The dynamic Design team of Evelyn Luna and Scott Chester presented their Architectura Collection which is based on the beauty and structure of urban architecture. The beautiful bold colored outfits brought all the looks to life as they reflected light on stage. I loved the high- energy and overall vibe of this collection, it offered an otherworldly vibe and felt like something “Zenon of the 21st Century” would wear.

Bennov, Supin, Videmus

At the final presentation of the evening, invited guests at the exclusive fashion event saw three separate collections from Bennov, Supin, and Videmus respectively. First was Bennov by designer Shiyuan Li who opened with a dramatic, beautiful gold and white piece which progressed into playful wearable looks. His theme was based on a mix of hardness and softness in a surreal collision for which he used sequence to show the juxtaposition between two opposite extremes. Next up was Supin Life, the brand known forplain aesthetics” which is the cultural root of the brand.

The Fall/Winter 2019 Collection was inspired by ancient Chinese characters dating as far back as 3000 years. It was all about Chinese minimalism which was seen in a series of effortless jackets and pants that were trendy yet stylish and portrayed Chinese characters and culture in an interesting way to the world.

The final presentation of the night was by Videmus Omnia who opened with an all-black outfit with chains, black stockings, and a tulle skirt. The inspiration for this collection was clear: Renaissance period, the impressionism art movement and grunge music! Each piece had a certain mystique that made you want to know more. This collection gave me “sick kawaii” vibe because of the music and fashions — it was my favorite of all the designers that presented.

The Nolcha Shows during Fashion Week are an award-winning series of events for Independent Designers to showcase their latest collection.
