My updated Skincare Routine 2019

In a polite society, a well-maintained skincare routine is one of life’s great successes.

One of my goals for 2019 is to work on my skin — according to an esthetician, my skin Isn’t bad but with a dedicated skincare routine it can be even better. Rewind to December 2018 when I went on my yearly family vacation and my skin literally freaked out! In the states, they have what is called “hard water” as you can’t drink it straight from the pipe unless there is a filter. I saw huge bumps on the right side of my face and I was having an allergic reaction to the water. I went to the “ethnic” beauty store In the area and grabbed a few things which I was told would help.

So far things have been good and I definitely would like to share these products.

Shea Moisture African Black Soap with Shea Butter | US $4.99

I used black soap before when that craze came out and it was a pleasant experience and it did was it was supposed to do so I went with the Shea Moisture brand.

Our soothing body bar soap is specially formulated with organic Shea Butter, Oats and Aloe to cleanse, moisturize and comfort irritated skin while absorbing excess oil. African Black Soap, an honored beauty secret, made from palm ash, tamarind extract, tar, and plantain peel, helps to calm and clear blemishes and troubled skin. Leaves skin soft and refreshed. Perfect for helping relieve symptoms of eczema or psoriasis.

The bar itself is pretty big so I cut off a small piece at the end and store the rest in a cool dry place — I used night and day ( as recommended) and it has made my skin really soft and the bumps are now gone. It gives the skin a really nice texture and also offers a tightening effect to make the skin look more youthful and awake. Definitely “haute” approved.
Tumeric and Sandalwood Face & Body Scrub | TT $120

This was gifted to me recently when the brand launched in Jamaica and the product has been nothing short of amazing! I’ve always wanted to try Tumeric but didn’t want the raw version that I had to make myself so this came in handy

Treats Acne & problematic skin, discoloration brightens the complexion. For normal to combination skin. Exfoliation removes the barrier of dead skin cells clogging the skin and uncovers fresh new cells below. This opens the way for skincare products to penetrate deeper into the skin making them more effective.

I must admit I was a bit scared to try this product as I heard “brightened” and didn’t want to end up looking “bleached”. It does brighten the skin by giving a natural glow but nothing too crazy. It is recommended to use 3 times weekly and leave to sit on the skin for 3 minutes — I, however, use this twice per week (just to be safe). The product can also be used on the body so If you have rough elbows and knees it will work wonders!

Olay Complete All Day Moisturizer | US $9.49

Never have I ever” … thought that I would use the same moisturizer as my Mom! For those of you into skincare, you would know that OLAY is the OG brand of moisturizers for more “mature” skin but they recently launched a new line geared at younger women. The one I got darlings was the grandma kind and I’m not even ashamed!
Protect against the #1 cause of aging skin—damage from the sun. Recommended by the Skin Cancer Foundation, Olay Complete Daily Moisturizer Cream with Broad Spectrum Sunscreen SPF 15 and UVA/UVB protection provides 48 hours of hydration for normal skin. This rich cream moisturizer conditions skin’s surface with Vitamins E, B3 and C to help maintain healthy-looking skin. Unlike many facial moisturizers with sunscreen, Complete All Day facial moisturizer with SPF is non-greasy and non-comedogenic—so it won’t clog your pores. Its oil-free formula leaves skin with a healthy glow. With its proven SolaSheer Technology, experience a surge of hydration with sun protection from America’s #1 UV moisturizer, based on P12M Nielsen xAOC unit sales.

With that all being said, a little goes a long way with this product as it’s quite creamy! With all moisturizers and skin care products, It is highly recommended to use on your face and neck as these are the parts that show signs of aging first and no matter how young, hip and glowing your face might look, the appearance of a sagging neck will expose you! I use this product at nights with a focus under my eyes (as I wear glasses and have that shadow) and of course my neck. I like that it has SPF in the formulation to combat the Jamaican heat.

ALOE VERA [SINKLE BIBLE] $FREE 99

I’ve also decided to sneak in Aloe Vera or as we say in Jamaica “Sinkle Bible”. For us here in Jamaica, it grows wild and you can find it almost everywhere. Aloe Vera offers anti-inflammatory and soothing properties which are great for minimizing the appearance of pimples, redness and other skin conditions. I use this as my go-to spot treatment for times when I need a bump to look smaller. You simply cut the prickly edges off, slice in half and rub the clear gel on your skin. You can leave it on for a few minutes until it dries down and begin to tighten OR you can use it the way I do which is to allow it to dry .. and sleep in it. When you wake up the next day, all you’ll do is wash your face and your skin will be soft and smooth.
