They say variety is the spice of life and that can be said about the 2018 Launch of Restaurant Week.
The true measure of success for any event is how well it has grown throughout the years and the Restaurant Week Launch keeps getting bigger and better with each passing year!
This year was absolutely special as the Jamaica Gleaner (a major sponsor) was celebrating their 184th year! The vibes, food and drink offerings on the Devon House South Lawn were all the way turned up! The sweltering heat from the mid-afternoon sun could not compete with the activities of the day.
As we perused the booths, we saw newcomer Starbucks with their hot and cold drink offerings to the far right of the venue before making a selection. First, was the delicious Shrimp-Pumpkin Soup from Fishpot which served as the appetizer to get the taste-buds going, followed by the Cheesy Barbecue Chicken Pasta from 876 Terrace Bar and Grill. The pasta was flavourful and cheesy as it promised and had the perfect amount of spices to awaken the senses. This is where my day ended as it relates to food as some of the other choices were not on the list of things I eat.
The event hosted by the vivacious Terri-Karelle Reid also featured the following food vendors: Jojos Jerk Pit, Jungle Fiah, Gypsy House Tapas, Sky-Dweller Ultra Lounge, General Foods, Absolut, KukUP Kreations, Eden Gardens -Black Orchid Restaurant, Thiia’s Smoothies, Select Brands, Absolut, Brisk, M-10 Bar & Grill+ more.

There was also a Farmer’s Market that offered some of the freshest local produce where patrons got a chance to purchase and speak with our local Farmers. Just 5 giants steps from this display was the all-new Jeep Compass from Kingston Industrial Garage (KIG) where patrons got to check out the interior and of course take a few selfies.
For patrons who prefer an easy-going semi-food related activity, there was the newly minted RJR Gleaner Food Artist booth. This allowed patrons to bring out their inner “Food Artist“, where they got to eat, paint and sip a cocktail courtesy of Select Brands Jamaica. We then made our way back to the entrance of the venue where Plant Jamaica had a beautiful display and spoke on permaculture and eating what you grow.
The event could not have been complete without taking a walk over to the Fashion Village where we caught up with our Fashion Friends: Heather Laine, Sabrina Reynolds, D’Nex Step and Zola Handmade Accessories just to name a few, as you simply can’t do food without fashion.
With another successful staging, we are on our way to the offerings of this year’s Restaurant Week from November 9th -17,2018 and is anticipating what the team will have planned for 2019.
Thanks to the talented Photographer Maurice Tucker from Image Jamaica, we have the coverage! See the photos below.
