Mission Catwalk Season 6: Episode 1

Mission Catwalk is back and we missed the premiere! Bummer! Fear, not my friends, we were able to watch the 1st episode on our trusted YouTube and we have a lot to tell!

This season premiered on Saturday, September 22,2018 on TVJ and has an interesting concept based on fashion brands collaborating with celebrities to create awareness and of course increase revenue.

THE CONCEPT

The Celebrity Edition of Mission Catwalk will feature 12 designers placed on three teams, each headed by a celebrity. The celebrities will guide the design process as designers are presented with weekly challenges geared at weeding out the weak and identifying the winner after nine episodes. At the end of the season, the celebrity paired with the winning designer will together launch a collaborative clothing line with part proceeds toward a charity of their choice. The series will showcase the dynamic between creative designers and career driven celebrities. The 3 celebrities are D’Angel, Quite Perry and ZJ Sparks.

Now that we are all caught up with the concept and formalities, let’s get into episode 1, shall we!

Episode 1

We are introduced to a fresh crop of Designers with varying personalities from Jamaica and other Caribbean Islands like Trinidad, Belize, and Bahamas — each designer had to pitch their ideas and showcase one item of clothing that best describes them to the celebs. Some were very confident and let their personality and designs speak for them while others made nerves get the best of them.

This was followed by the 1st challenge –the designers had to imagine they were about to hit the runway in 3 minutes and they were short a dress so they had to drape one on the model or in this case mannequin. Talk about pressure! Those designers worked magic with fabric, scissors, and pins! It was quite exciting to watch as we watched a mere piece of fabric being transformed into a masterpiece. There were some who found it easy, while for others it was their 1st time and a few saw it as just a part of the show and did the best they could.

It was then time for the celebs to pick who they wanted on their teams! From the diverse and talented group, 12 designers were chosen which are: Renee Stewart, Kejuana Beneby, Mercy-Ann Copeland, Collette Bryan, Cassandra Blake, Soshorna Henry, Daniel Dinnall, Moses Fennel, Rochele Spencer, Tonii Dyce, Stephen Bassano, and Melissa Moses. Just when you thought it was over, one of the designers who did not get selected fainted under the pressure and was aided by the Mission Catwalk team.

Episode 1 was definitely exciting and a great start to the season and we are on the edge of our seats and excited to see episode 2 and get acquainted with the designers and their personalities.

Tune in TONIGHT on TVJ at 8:30 pm to see the next exciting challenge where designers will be asked to create an item inspired by eyewear
