It was just last week I decided to start getting up at 5 AM and it was an absolute Failure with a capital “F”.
Before I get into that drama, I would like to share my morning routine with you since you like more personal blog posts.
Meditation + Devotion
So, I know here in 2018 people believe in trees and the Universe but I still and will always believe in Jesus Christ. Each morning, though I’m not an ardent church goer I dedicate at least 20 minutes to read the Bible as my life is not short of challenges and people who want to see me fail, so I make sure I’m armed in the word of God. After my brief devotion, I take another 10 minutes to just do nothing and meditate– I literally just allow my mind to relax.
Getting Dressed
I then take a quick shower, get dressed and put on simple makeup.
Breakfast
After that, it’s breakfast —I never miss breakfast no matter what! I love a simple breakfast of Eggs, Bread or Pancakes, Chicken Sausage or Chicken Ham and Black Coffee. As a Jamaican, the traditional breakfast is usually Ackee and Saltfish or Calaloo and Satlfish and Boiled Dumplings or Fried Dumplings–However! those foods are super heavy (for me) in the morning and I would surely be asleep be 8:00 am.
I head out
Interestingly enough, since I work from home I don’t have very far to go and within 3 minutes I’m at work.
I’m sure if I used video to tell this story it would look more interesting But I don’t so I hope you like the pictures.
Waking up at 5AM
For this Summer, I created a “Plan of Success” for the rest of the year. In this plan is waking up early to maximize my time by productively utilizing the hours of the day. Sunday night I set my Alarm to 5am and Monday I woke up at 6:30. EPIC FAIL!! As the week progressed, I got better and was now waking up at 5AM. I find that it makes my tasks so much easier throughout the day and I complete them as early as 11AM and have the rest of the day to focus on other things like daydreaming about going to Paris for my Birthday in February. I was definitely super tired for the first two days as my body wasn’t used to getting up at that time and I thought so many times of going back to bed. The trick to waking up consistently at 5AM is to go to bed earlier, I try to set a bedtime of 9:45 and by 9AM the Tv so there are no distractions to fall asleep.
This definitely Isn’t a one-time thing but more of a lifestyle change and I will definitely continue waking up at 5AM.
