For the first time since its inception, Style Week JA introduced a symposium with the theme Careers in International Fashion which was targeted towards those interested in a Career in Fashion.
Here in Jamaica when we think of a Career in Fashion we think “Designer” or “Model” when there are literally thousands of careers in the Fashion Industry.
The event was held at the Savannah Suite at Eden Gardens Wellness Resort & Spa. In attendance were students from Papine High School, Wolmer’s High School for Girls, Portmore Community College, Waterford High School, St. Andrew High School, St. Hugh’s and Tarrant High School.
Speakers of the day included:
– Janique Jude: Marketing Manager, Lee’s Fifth Avenue
– Mrs. Andrea Dempster-Chung: British Council Arts- Creative Consultant and Coach
– Mr. Daniel Edwards: Founder/CEO Total One Eighty
– Mrs. Lisa McIntosh-Aris: Celebrity Hair – Stylist & Fashion Designer
– Jermaine “JD” Downer: Saint International Model
– Barbra Grant: Saint International Model
Each speaker spoke about their journey and re-counted the steps they took to create a career out of Fashion—including the good and the bad. One thing is clear, in order to be successful in the Fashion Industry, you must have a love for it, be patient and willing to work harder than everybody else.
