Sandra Rodriguez Bicknell Turns Heartbreak into Beauty with Cuts of a Diamond

Pinterest LinkedIn Tumblr
Sandra Rodriguez- Bicknell has had it all – she’s traveled the world in her 20’s as a successful international model and then fell in with a Jamaican man, got married and started a family. The marriage produced 2 children but after six years it came to an end and she was left to pick up the pieces and found love again. After 10 blissful years, that relationship ended and she was again on her own.

One would think these experiences would easily break anyone, but not Sandra! As humans when we go through such traumatic experiences, we are often encouraged to find an outlet and for Sandra, it was writing.  She used her heartbreak and experiences and began her journey to healing where she penned her novel “Cuts of a Diamond”. Sandra tells her story using strong imagery through words in such a way where her experience resonates with the reader and allows us to tap into our most heartbreaking experience and turn it into a thing of beauty.

On March 27, 2019, Sandra’s closest friends, family and people she met through her life’s journey, came out to support her at the Pallet for the Launch of “Cuts of a Diamond”. The launch hosted by Tami Chin-Mitchell saw some of Jamaica’s most noted Public Figures including fellow authors Krystal Chong- Hamre and Melanie Schwapp in attendance as they witnessed the magic of “marking a moment” as described by Sandra.  After a heart-warming speech by Psychologist Alina Apostol Sandra made her way to the stage to speak briefly about her experience and gave a few words of encouragement:

“I wanted to have this type of book launch with all of you here and I can see all the faces here and I remember all the times that each and every one of you helped me and supported me, were there for me, loved me and invited me, included me in your life and that’s huge – especially for a person who is an outsider.

})();
I always wanted to write a book, and the time came when the time came and I realized I had a lot to say and a lot about my story. We all have love heartache and experiences that we all go through the same. Once the book was done I realized that I wanted to tell my story. I was able to focus on my message and what I wanted to share with the world”.

The launch ended on high notes with a musical selection from Brady O’Connor who’s “Chasing the Sun” single was the perfect end to a successful event.
