After three incredible years with GenXS at Carnival in Jamaica, I can proudly say I’m officially a GenXS veteran! Covering the band as press has given me a front-row seat to its growth — and trust me, it just keeps getting better.
GenXS Takes Carnival in Jamaica 2025 to the Next Level
This year, GenXS truly elevated the experience, ensuring revellers enjoyed so much more than just a traditional “jump with a band.” Every detail, from costume collection to Road March Day, felt thoughtfully curated to deliver luxury, excitement, and unmatched vibes.
A Seamless Start: Costume Collection at AC Marriott
Costume distribution this year moved to the elegant AC Marriott Hotel, and it was a game-changer. The process felt like a VIP concierge experience — organized, efficient, and most importantly, air-conditioned! Each participant received a personalized call for collection, eliminating the usual chaos and long waits typical of carnival season.
Road March Day: A Festival Like No Other
Road March on Sunday, April 27, 2025, was nothing short of spectacular. If you missed any other GenXS event this season, this was the one you needed to attend. The reimagined route allowed for both morning and afternoon sessions — perfect whether you’re an early bird or a lunchtime starter.
And let’s talk about the food! Emancipation Park served as the band’s base, where revellers could sit comfortably at tables to enjoy a wide range of cuisine. From international dishes to Jamaican favorites, unlimited desserts, burgers, hot dogs, and even vegan options — there was truly something for everyone. A first-time GenXS reveller shared with me, “Last year with another band, we sat on the ground in the sun and food ran out. Look at me this year — eating international cuisine, seated comfortably! I love this for me.”
Neither the scorching mid-morning sun nor the occasional afternoon showers could dampen the vibrant energy of the day. Revellers, adorned in dazzling costumes, danced freely to the soca beats spun by DJ Gabby, DJ Kevy, DJ Doc, and New York-based DJ Rashade. Onlookers lined the streets, flags waving high, soaking in the spirit of Carnival.
Notable figures like Sharon Burke of Solid Agency and Olympian Asafa Powell were also spotted. “This is my third time marching with GenXS and I love it — it’s youthful and trendy,” Powell shared, beaming with pride.
Smirnoff and GenXS: A Winning Partnership
This year, Smirnoff stepped up as the title sponsor for GenXS, marking a natural evolution of their three-year partnership. Lasana Wilson, Assistant Brand Manager, noted, “We’re proud to support GenXS and bring even more excitement to Carnival in Jamaica.”
Revellers also enjoyed offerings from Smirnoff’s family of brands, including Johnnie Walker, Red Stripe, and the newly launched Rum Stripe Grapefruit.
The improvements were evident — from the more spacious band base at Emancipation Park to the overall elevated experience for revellers. One of the standout additions this year was a free concert featuring Kes the Band, a thoughtful move that showed GenXS’ commitment to giving back to the Jamaican community.
With unforgettable memories made, enhanced offerings, and a clear dedication to excellence, GenXS has once again proven why it’s the band to watch for Carnival in Jamaica 2025 and beyond.
