Will Fashion Week Return In Person officially?
This is the question on everyone’s mind! I know I’ve been thinking about this since last year and also wondered If there was anyone bold enough to enter physical shows during these times. I love fashion just as much as other Fashion Enthusiasts, but that is a risk I am not willing to take.
We saw Jacquesmus and Dior went ahead with physical shows that raised a lot of eyebrows and questioned how in touch they were with reality. Though this was not the best thing to do, the concepts were well thought out (as they always are) and of course, all COVID-19 protocols were observed.
THE (IN-PERSON) RETURN OF NEW YORK FASHION WEEK
People craved human interaction (albeit socially distanced) and in-person runway shows took differently, but somewhat familiar forms – upstate with Christian Siriano, on a rooftop with Jason Wu, on a small New York City island with Ulla Johnson, and at the foot of the East River with Eckhaus Latta.
Some leveraged digital tools, creating small films like Carolina Herrera, Wolk Morais, Oak & Acorn, PH5, Who Decides War, and Kenneth Nicholson. Others welcomed us to their virtual reality worlds like Colleen Allen and Kozaburo.
With the good news of the vaccine’s arrival, it’s only normal that our industry begs the question: what’s the future of fashion week?
We’ve seen incredible innovation, and we expect that some of the solutions designers came up with will follow them into the new year when we can all gather again safely.
The point, however, is not to go back to “normal” – we’re looking to be better. Revamped, refreshed, and we’re excited for what’s ahead.
With that being said the buzzword for Fashion Week (Month) this year is Phygital — think of this as a hybrid between Physical and Digital where Digital comes out on top! I will always commend how Fashion Brand Hanifa opted for a 3d Fashion show that saw her pieces going down a virtual runway! The pieces were beautiful and they moved effortlessly! Not only was this presentation one of its kind as it has never been done but she stood out from her peers and was the “it” brand of the season.
Whether you are a seasoned designer or up and coming, ensure your plan for Fashion Week is digital and it is well thought out to capture your audience’s attention!
